In the lower and intermediate levels, lessons are consistently held in virtual classrooms. A teacher is assigned to each subject and the lessons take place live according to the timetable. The teacher teaches on the virtual whiteboard, leads group sequences in small working groups or helps during the nursing phases. Students can sign in with virtual hand signals and speak directly with him or her.
Important lesson sequences are recorded so that each student can review them after class. We work in the Microsoft Teams learning environment and the virtual notebook, which parents can also access. Class tests are also written online and parents have access to the current performance level.
In the following we would like to explain some of our concepts for our middle school. For more detailed information, please arrange an information meeting.
45 minute lessons are often accompanied by a strong fragmentation of the day and bring restlessness to the process. Especially when there is a certain dependence on technique, as few changes as possible should take place so that concentration on one content is given. However, it is essential to take a longer break between lessons to relax the eyes.
For this reason we consistently teach in teaching blocks (2 x 45 minute lessons without breaks) and have at least 30 minute breaks between the blocks.
Due to this length of teaching it is clear that 90 minutes of frontal teaching is not possible. Our teachers are specially trained in phase changes to make the lessons lively and to give enough time for practice, which is often not enough in a classroom school.
One of the biggest challenges of a consistent online school is to develop a time concept that can be used by as many students from different countries as possible at the same time. Basic conditions are the teaching hours of the teachers (mostly in Germany) and the residence of the students. The given times therefore correspond to the German time zone: CET (observe summer and winter time)
that corresponds to UTC - 2 hours
In order to give as many students as possible a chance to enter the school already in the foundation phase, there is a core time of 3 teaching blocks starting at 2 pm German time and a marginal block after that, which should be used less frequently. These times will be evaluated and adjusted if necessary.
Monday to Friday:
Double period 1 14:00 - 15:30
Double period 2 16:00 - 17:30
Double period 3 18:00 - 19:30
Double period 4 20:00 - 21:30
all times correspond to the current German time calculation.
Through this rhythmization we reach most students from the USA and Canada to Russia.

The times refer to the current German time zone. The times for the sports fitness exercises (PE concept) are determined by the students themselves.
Personal fitness is an individual skill. Instead of collective and standardized sports lessons we want to motivate our students to set goals for their physical performance and to document their success. The goals to be achieved vary. Fitness apps such as https://www.freeletics.com/de/ offer the possibility to follow a well-founded plan and to recognize one's own successes. But also private soccer or riding training can be documented.
The students submit their results, which are then printed out in their final year overview.
To set and achieve goals consciously should also strengthen the students' self-confidence.
Loss of lessons is always a big problem in schools. Of course, we cannot prevent a colleague from falling ill, but we always try to replace the subject with another subject colleague in a sensible way. Should this not be possible, we have ITG lessons as an alternative concept, where students learn how to use the computer efficiently. For example, they practice blind typing on the keyboard, but typical everyday programs teach them how to use the media safely. In this way, substitution lessons are used sensibly instead of just being supervised.
Even if we are separated by each other, common ground is important for us. The students work together in groups and projects so that they get to know each other well and personal contacts are established. There are class leadership sessions where feedback from the students is sought, but also where we work on the common ground. In this way we will work together on social projects, solve problems and plan together.
In the 9th grade there will be a voluntary class trip, where all students will come together and spend two weeks together in Germany or Austria.
